BBC News

The channel was originally planned as a regular channel for overseas broadcasting, although unlike BBC World Radio, which is funded by the English government, the English government refused to pay subsidies for the channel. The channel was launched on March 11, 1991 as BBC World Service Television. After two weeks of pilot programs, the channel began broadcasting permanently.

On 1 January 1994 the channel was divided into two parts: one was an entertainment channel (BBC Prime) requiring a special subscription, the other was a news channel (BBC World). In the same year 94 a minor rebranding took place on the channel. From 1994 to 1997, the graphics and studio design of the news programs, were very similar to those used on the regular BBC channels in England.

A new channel design and updates came after a new corporation logo was introduced on October 4, 1997, and changes in graphics occurred on November 9, 1997.

Another strong design change on the channel came in 1999, when the news acquired the same signature colors, such as red and cream, as well as a single “countdown” music design by composer David Lowe, thus deviating from the main tunes with the orchestra.

A new rebranding took place in 2003, using the same “countdowns” as the musical design. The graphics were also changed. The music was slightly changed, while the graphics changed to black and red, with the use of frosted glass and red and white tones in the studio. Later, in 2004, the channel’s slogan was changed, explicitly indicating that the channel had become an all-news channel.

In 2008, the channel was renamed BBC World News. New graphics were created as well as redesigned music by David Lowe.
